Planet Protect® Sportswear and Oceana ask for Plastics Pollution Pledge
Apparel company, Planet Protect® Sportswear, along with ocean advocacy group, Oceana, have created a plastic pollution pledge in an effort to raise awareness about the emerging threat of plastic in our oceans and what we can do to prevent further damage.

/Fashion News Articles/ - LAKE OSWEGO, OR, July 01, 2008 - The growing threat of plastic pollution in our oceans is a serious hazard to hundreds of thousands of marine animals, marine eco-systems and ultimately human health. Planet Protect® Sportswear and Oceana have partnered to create a plastic pollution pledge to encourage consumers to use less plastic, be responsible with the plastic they use and work toward better recycling of plastic products after use. To take the pledge visit: http://community.oceana.org/plastic

During a recent trip to the Hawaiian Islands, Planet Protect® founder Jim Beriault came face to face with the plastic pollution crisis, seeing tremendous amounts of trash invading the local reefs. Beriault visited with Oceana in Washington DC in April of 2008, and Oceana decided to create the Plastic Pollution Pledge.

"I've spent my life around oceans and water and feel strongly about protecting our future, and I see plastic pollution as a serious threat," said Beriault. "I encourage all communities and individuals to make a conscience decision to use less plastic, get involved in beach clean ups and recycle as much as possible - we are trashing our planet and we are all responsible to fix the problem, please take the pledge - visit Oceana.org today."

Established in 2006, Planet Protect® Sportswear was created to offer great summer wear to consumers looking for clothing made from sustainable products and/or responsible companies, and offers year-around beach and leisure wear sales opportunities If you are looking for great organic cotton shorts, hemp skirts and fashionable tops, Planet Protect Sportswear is a great option. Planet Protect is most proud of their T-shirt series - such as the Ocean Swirls Series: featuring interpretive art representing water, or the Elements of Life Series: highlighting Earth, Air and Water symbols or the Sea Life Series - where endangered or beloved animals are featured on the T-shirts.

During the check-out process the Planet Protect® customer can designate 10% of their total purchase to Oceana. Protect Sportswear can be found on the web at www.PlanetProtect.com and more information about Oceana can be found at www.Oceana.org. Planet Protect Sportswear has an ongoing fundraising partnership with Oceana which began in 2007.

It's important to note that Planet Protect® Sportswear makes their donations based on the total purchase price (excluding shipping and handling charges) of the customer and this donation comes from Planet Protect's gross profit as a company and is not tax deductible on the customer's part.
