LateRooms.com - Visit Liverpool for Dare to Wear
Dare to Wear in Liverpool gives tourists a chance to view a selection of dresses made out of glass.
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND, January 25, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A very special exhibition of clothes entitled Dare to Wear: Glass Dresses by Diana Dias-Leao is likely to fascinate fashion and art enthusiasts alike.
There are 14 dresses made of glass and two corsets fashioned from barbed wire to view in the collection, which is on display at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool until September 30th 2011.
According to the organisers, Dias-Leao wants to show visitors from Liverpool hotels that despite the glittering image that clothes deliver, it is the person underneath that matters most.
"Not made for practical wear, this collection of couture sculpture is designed to create discussion and debate about issues around beauty and body image," they added.
Dias-Leao has experience of working in the fashion industry and previously indicated that she thinks a lack of confidence can be a serious contributing factor in illnesses such as bulimia and anorexia.
It is free to enter the Dare to Wear exhibition, with the arts space open from 10:00 to 17:00 every day of the week.
The Walker Art Gallery can be found on William Brown Street, a short walk from Liverpool Lime Street train station.
It could be an especially good day out for parents who want their children to see some appropriate art work, as it hosts Big Art for Little Artists on the ground floor of the complex, which is specifically designed for youngsters.
