Miss Ecuador and Galapagos Native Spreads Message of Sustainability and Conservation to a Global Audience
SAO PAULO, BRAZIL, September 14, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Today, Official Lonesome George & Co. Agent of Change Claudia Schiess, Miss Ecuador 2011, will take the Miss Universe stage to represent her native Galapagos Islands and spread the message of sustainability and conservation to a global audience.
"Claudia is showing the world that beauty and purpose can go hand in hand," said Eduardo Balarezo, CEO and founder of Lonesome George & Co. "She is aware of the importance of making empowered choices and wants to create broad awareness to help conserve our precious resources. That's what we look for in our Agents of Change."
Lonesome George & Co. selects Agents of Change to highlight how one person can make a significant positive impact on their community and raise awareness to avoid hopeless situations like Lonesome George, the last living Pinta Tortoise, from happening again.
"If everyone does something to tackle an issue in their own community, real sustainable change can happen," said Claudia Schiess. "We can't do it alone, but we can do it together."
Additional Official Lonesome George & Co. Agents of Change include Steve Blake of the Max Planck Institute, Washington Tapia of the Galapagos National Park, Reyna Oleas of the Galapagos-based NGO, Fundacion Scalesia, Jose Torres of Outward Bound, Eric Sheets of Latin Excursions and Galapagos National Park Rangers who were recently recognized for intercepting boats that were fishing illegally for sharks.
